Join Katrina Spade, the founder of Recompose, as she describes the history, process, and ritual of human composting.

Katrina is a designer and the inventor of a system that transforms the dead into soil. In 2017, Katrina founded Recompose, a public benefit corporation. Recompose is a full service funeral home specializing in human composting. Their facility is located in the SODO neighborhood of Seattle.

Katrina and her team have been featured in Fast Company, NPR, the Atlantic, BBC, Harper’s Magazine, and the New York Times. She is an Echoing Green Fellow, an Ashoka fellow, and a Harvard Kennedy School Visiting Social Innovator. The team has led the successful legalization of this green death care option in Washington State, Oregon, Colorado, California, Vermont, and New York.
