I’ve been part of a running and exercise group for many years. When the group lost its “bootcamp” leader a few years ago, I offered to help in order to keep the exercise part of the group going. I took a physical fitness class at North Seattle College so that I could do a better job of leading the group, and it has become a really nice and beneficial activity. The participants are in their 50s and 60s, and the focus of our exercises has shifted from running specific to more foundational exercises that will help us remain independent and strong as we grow older. We do a variety of exercises including squats, lunges, farmer’s carry, and step ups that will help us remain strong for the tasks of daily living like getting up from chairs, going up and down stairs, and carrying bags of groceries. All of the exercises can be modified for a variety of abilities.
I’d like to offer these same types of exercises to our WPC community, and I invite you to join me on Monday and/or Wednesday mornings at 10:00 AM for 30-45 minutes in the Fellowship Hall. We will meet this week (Feb. 2 and 4), take a week off for my vacation and the Presidents’ Day holiday, then start up again on Wednesday, Feb. 18. You do not need to bring any equipment, but please wear comfortable/flexible clothes and shoes with slip resistant soles.
Let me know if you have any questions, and I hope to see you there!
