A Seed and a String held their annual Strings Summer Festival at the church last week (7/21~7/25). It’s not just as a music camp, but a community-driven fundraiser supporting local youth in need. Organized by a dedicated group of volunteer student musicians from Roosevelt High School, the camp follows the model of their successful Winter Workshop held at WPC last year, which raised $1,200 for YouthCare, who “works to end youth homelessness and to ensure that young people are valued for who they are and empowered to achieve their potential.” A Seed and a String also sent a thoughtful thank-you card to the church, expressing their gratitude for the use of the space and the support of the congregation.

As before, all student teachers volunteered their time, and 100% of donations from participating families will go directly to Friends of the Children, “a local nonprofit that provides long-term, one-on-one mentorship to youth facing systemic barriers.”

Looking ahead, Elyse Oh, founder and managing director of A Seed and a String, explains that their “long term goal is to turn the workshop/camp part of our studio into a nonprofit organization as well so that we can continue to operate all of our workshops and summer camps without any cost for the students while supporting other nonprofits in the area through fundraising. Our goal is to finalize this over the summer and to officiate our project into a non-profit so that we can continue our mission to support those in need through teaching music.” Thank you for making WPC a part of this wonderful mission!
